How Many Calories Do You Burn Doing Focus T25?

I am so excited that tomorrow is my last day of the Beta Phase of Focus T25 and I’ve gotten a ton of questions about calorie burned for the workouts.  While my individual posts review the workouts and share the calories I’ve burned, I thought it would be helpful to share my average calories burned for each individual workout.

What is Focus T25?

FOCUS T25 is a 10-week at home fitness program developed by trainer Shaun T (yes, the Insanity guy) split into 2 cycles—ALPHA and BETA—which each last 5 weeks. Shaun’s pulled out all the rest, so you get everything you need, nothing you don’t. The result is FOCUS T25—and the name implies the intent: If you focus your intensity for 25 minutes, and you do it 5 days a week, you WILL get results. I’ve absolutely loved the time aspect of this program – there are no excuses to getting it done and the time flies right by.

How Many Calories Do You Burn Doing Focus T25?

The actual number is going to be different for everyone BUT this is my average calorie burn for each of the workouts.  I use a Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) with a chest strap that constantly monitors heart rate during the workouts so it’s a good estimate.  Remember, gender, height, weight, and exertion will affect YOUR calorie burn.  For reference I am 5’7″ and weight 142 pounds.

Alpha Cycle:

Cardio – 265
Speed 1.0 – 260
Total Body Circuit – 280  (this is in my opinion the most challenging but BEST Alpha workout!)
Ab Intervals – 215
Lower Focus – 200

Beta Cycle:

Core Cardio – 270
Speed 2.0 – 255
Rip’t Circuit – 230
Dynamic Core – 235
Upper Focus – 235

As you can see I personally didn’t break the 300 calorie mark in under 30 minutes which for me is tough to do. I *do* have challengers that have done it so it totally depends on you and your body.  The other thing I want to mention is that T25 is similar to HIIT training SO you continue to burn more calories because of your elevated heart rate even after the workout.  I’ve had a few times where I didn’t jump in the shower right after the workout and the sweat just continued to pour off of me.  My point is – lower calorie burn on the HRM does not necessarily mean that you aren’t getting an intense workout and results. I can absolutely say after 10 weeks – YES you can get results from this program even in a short amount of time

            Ive gotten to my 5th week of alpha and my partner (brother) stopped doing the workouts bc he got sick. I need motivation, its so hard to stay discipline and do my workouts daily. Even with the fact that I lost 10lbs from the first 3 weeks. HELP!!!

    Hi Angie, stumbled onto your site and noticed someone just yest. started alpha and wanted to start a group. My friend and I did the first alpha last night, oh my poor calves. I would be very interested in a group here, for my accountability. I am 47, 5’7″ and am 155 (slide between 153 and 157). But more importantly, I need to drop inches, the lb’s will happen, I can help that side myself. Looking forward to hearing from you, or anybody else’s replies.     Hey Angie….and I just started my t25 again this past Monday 25 Nov 13 after putting quite a bit of weight back on since my families move to ny…..I actually started slim in 6 on 4 Nov 13 and I lost 5lbs in 4 wks…..I am ok with that only becAuse I have lost inches everywhere….but my thing is I need cannot do the same hour long workout every single day….so I had to make a switch….so I am doing my t25. And adding chalene extreme 3 days a week for weight training…and I have 8 months till my husband gets back from deployment….so I just really need a motivational group to help me through this…I have the drive but I need others that are feeling the pain with me….please help…erica

I have one running on Facebook and it’s private/invite only. Would you be interested? As for water – I shoot for at least 80 oz a day but ideally 100. It’s so important to stay hydrated throughout the day or you can mistake hunger for thirst. I hope that helps! I’m glad you found me too :)

    Hi Angie… I just got t-25 and am looking to lose 15-20 lbs. I currently weight 142-145 depending on the day, and i’m 5’4”. I really want to connect with a group b/c of my craziness of being a working mom with one of my two kids who doesn’t sleep-I usually function on about 4 hrs of sleep daily and drink loads of coffee and water to stay awake and hydrated. I am wondering how many calories I am burning. what do you recommend to track that. I am 5’4 and 170 so I am not sure if I could go on what you have listed

If you don’t have one or get one you can estimate based on my numbers. They won’t be the same exactly but it’s a fair estimate. Way to get day 2 done!

    Hi! Just completed day 3 of Alpha. I’m trying to follow the nutrition plan, but I’m a relatively fussy eater but I am committed to try new food. Can any recommend a substation drink or food for Shakeology as you can get it in the uk? Thanks Sarah.

      Hi Sarah! Congrats on getting thru your first week! How was your double day? Kudos to you trying new foods! It’s great to expand your horizons. I have so many challengers that are in Europe and it’s such a bummer that Shakeology isn’t distributed there yet. I am hopeful that someday it will be. I don’t have a good sub unfortunately since there’s nothing that has as many amazing ingredients, super foods, pro and pre biotics, etc. My challengers that are outside of north america tend to use a protein powder to supplement and add a good amount of vitamins and healthy foods.     Started T25 yesterday. LOVE IT. I tried P90X and only did it for a week. I can do 25 minutes but 90 was to much. Thanks for putting the calorie counts. Very helpful. Hoping to lose 30 lbs by May 4 – my daughters 3rd bday. That would make my weight loss 100 lbs. I have been stuck at 70lbs for over a year. Can’t wait to see the results.

    T-25 you can burn from 600 to 1000 calories

      Totally depends on your gender, weight and exertion. For me I never got close to that but I do know people in my challenge groups that have however typically they are male (burn more calories naturally) and weight quite a bit more. Hope that helps!

      Hi Mariet- I use a heart rate monitor with a chest stap so my heart rate is constantly monitored throughout my workout. The one I use is a Polar FT4 and I like it! Hope that helps!

    Hi Angie!….I had Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer last year and put on 2 stone through my chemo and radiotherapy!! I am now in remission! I am 54 and been doing T25 for bout a month now ( although I follow Tania most of he time! ) My daughter is a personal trainer and runs a leisure centre and put T25 on a memory stick and I love it and I would love to join your group?
    I have lost about 12lb now and am on a healthy diet……Please would you add me to your group?

    I am on day 3 of T 25 …. I am 58, and I have had a (bad) knee and hip replacement (good)and can not do some of the floor exercises … or the stretches … so I am squatting on the total body cicuit tape, and using a different stretch(Leslie Sansones walking tape stretch) at the end …. Am I defeating my purpose? I get through the total 25 minutes and am VERY sore which is good …..

It sounds like you have modified to meet your needs and you are active and moving and there’s nothing wrong with that! I do know the floor work in this program can be tough but the cardio is great and you should still see results. Sore means you did good things :) Good luck on your double day today!

    Just started day 1 of t-25 ALPHA, man was it a killer. i had to modify most of the time cause it was very intense but it still kicked my butt. i weigh about 165 and am 5’7 female, would like to lose 15 pounds and tone a bit. for anyone trying to do t-25, DO IT! eventually im excited for when i can do what shaun and his fellow buddies are doing throughout the entire workout without modifying at all! i started a nutrition program, which i believe in order to see results you’re going to need to follow some sort of diet or whatever you’d like to call it. ill post back every week with results. also btw i measured my bust, waist, hips, thighs and arms because i heard you lose more inches than anything which is great.

      Hey Yousuf! Thanks for your comment and glad you found it useful. It’s such an individual thing but I’ll tell ya my hubby is 5’8 and at that time was about 180 and he usually burned around 400-500 on average. Hope that helps!

    Wow Angie! I just read through a couple years worth of posts and can’t believe your still helping all these folks! Bless you!! Just started T25 today, I’m 34 years old, 5’5″, 190lbs and have double hip implants. I’m proud to say I was able to do a cross between modified and regular on alpha cardio. 25 minutes a day?? I got this!!!
